Frequently Asked Questions

I’m always happy to answer any questions you might have. Below are some of the more regular ones that might answer your question even faster.

What types of voiceover projects do you work on?

I provide voiceover for commercials, corporate narration, e-learning and explainers. I’ve also worked with people self-funding their passion projects or educational exhibitions and LOVE working with their energy and enthusiasm and learning about their topic in the process. Don’t let budget concerns hold you back from getting in touch, we’ll make it happen!

If you have a project that doesn’t fit into one of these categories, I’d love to hear about it.

Do you offer free custom auditions or demos?

Yep of course! I’ll happily record a short demo from your script to ensure the style and tone fit your project before booking.

Do you offer live directed sessions?

Absolutely - and I’d recommend this if you’re keen to offer feedback to ensure we get the right take, right away. There are several ways you can connect to my recording booth, via Zoom, Google Meets, Teams, Cleanfeed, Source Elements etc. then you can listen in from wherever you are.

What's your turnaround time?

My typical turnaround is 24 hours depending on length and complexity, but for short-form pieces, often much less. If I’m not booked up that day, I can sometimes jump straight into the booth to record ASAP. I’ll always try to accommodate your project if you’re on a tight deadline.

If we record a live session together I can send you the raw audio immediately after to avoid delays. For the longer and more complex projects, we’ll agree on a delivery date prior to booking.

How does a live session actually work?

After we’ve agreed on any licensing terms and the price for the project, we’ll set up a time to record live together. Ideally you’d need Google Chrome as your browser and some headphones and you can invite me to join your session on cleanfeed, zoom or source connect, or I can invite you. I will always record from my end, often the client records from their end if they’re set up to do so. Any other key stakeholders in the project are welcome to listen in too, such as Creative Directors, the agency or the client.

I’ll send you the clean, raw audio after the session with all the takes.

What if I’ve never directed before?

No problem at all, the main thing is that it’s relaxed and fun!  This is simply your chance to listen in and provide feedback in real time to ensure we nail the exact tone, pacing and feel that you’re looking for.

Can you self-direct if I can’t join a live session?

100% - I’m very happy to self-direct. Give me as much information about your project and what you’re after, including any background music or track that the script might be laid over, then I’ll get cracking and deliver the audio to you within our agreed deadline.

Can you attend a session at a recording studio?

Yes please! The majority of my work tends to be done from my home studio, so I love the chance to record at someone else's studio when possible. Plus sound engineers tend to be pretty sound.

I live in south London so I'm half an hour from central London but will happily go further afield if required. Let me know all the specifications of the project and when you’d like to record and I’ll get back to you ASAP with my availability.

What file formats do you provide?

Standard delivery (and the most commonly requested) are high-quality WAV and MP3. Other formats are available if required.

The script has changed after recording! What happens now?

Don’t panic - it happens! Drop me an email detailing all of the changes and we’ll make a plan. If the changes are minor, there’s no charge. If a significant proportion has changed, we can discuss!

Do you provide your audio fully edited?

This of course can be delivered - let me know your requirements when booking.

Can you match a specific tone, accent, or style?

If you have a specific performance in mind, providing references (video/audio) or direction is super helpful for me to tailor the performance to match. If it’s an accent or style that I can’t do, I may be able to help suggest another voice from my network of fabulous and talented voices.

Rates and Payment

What is a Voiceover’s BSF?

My Basic Studio Fee (BSF) is £250 inc VAT per hour.

I always stick to industry rates.

My BSF includes:

  • A full script overview, with marking up and rehearsals

  • The hire of my recording studio and my industry standard equipment

  • An hour’s live-directed recording session (unless you’d prefer me to self-direct).

  • Basic editing and delivery of clean audio following the recording session

  • One round of revisions for any pickups needed

  • An audio file delivered in the format of your choice

When a project is going to be broadcast somewhere or in the public domain, for example a website, or featured on TV/ radio, then a usage fee will be added on top of the BSF.

What does usage cover?

When you hire a voiceover, you’re not just paying for the voice artist's performance — you’re also paying for permission to use it. This in essence, is what usage covers.

Usage usually answers three questions:

  1. Where will the recording be used?
    (online, radio, TV, internal, etc.)

  2. How long can you use it for?
    (1 month, 3 months, 1 year, 5 years etc.)

  3. How widely will it be heard?
    (local, national, global)

Usage is the licence that tells you where, how long, and how widely you can use a voiceover.

There are three main types of usage within voiceover.

Organic usage - this is applicable to all voiceovers where the audio is being used in a public place (i.e. website or social media) but without paying for advertising. For this kind of project, you’ll be quoted the BSF and the price for an organic usage license. This license will be negotiable depending on the size of the company and how many people the audio is expected to reach.

Online commercial usage - This differs from organic when you are using paid advertising for your project. For this kind of project, you’ll be quoted the BSF and the price for an online commercial usage license. This license will be negotiable depending on the size of the company and how many people the audio is expected to reach/ the number of purchased impressions.

TV commercial usage - For this kind of project, I quote my BSF plus a usage fee, based on how long the campaign will run and the number of impressions/Television ratings (TVRs) it is aiming to reach. For a fair and accurate quote, I use the link usefee.tv

What are your payment terms?

My terms for repeat clients are 30 days.

For new clients, I kindly ask for a 50% deposit up front, with the remaining 50% prior to delivery of the signed off files.

How do I request a quote?

Every project is different, so please give me as much info as you have!

  • What type of project is it? (A Radio ad, TV commercial, explainer, Corporate brand video, charity campaign, museum audio guide etc?)

  • What tone or style do you want?

  • Where is it being used? TV/radio/socials/podcast/streaming services/events or conferences? Or is it for internal use only?

  • Where is it going to be shown? Local/UK only/Europe/worldwide?

  • Who’s the audience?

  • How long do you want to use the audio for?

All of this is mega helpful to ensure I get a real sense of what you’re after and can nail the exact kind of read you’re after. If you don’t have all the answers to this yet, that’s fine! We can play it by ear.

How do I book you?

So, in a nutshell - see my page 'Working Together' or follow the above bullet points and send me as much of this info about your project as you can. I can ping you over a free demo if you like, to see if I’m the right fit for your project.

If you’re happy, we either arrange a live session for you/someone on your team/your client to join. Or, if you’re happy for me to self-record, once we've agreed the tone, audience, any audio/visual references required, I’ll get recording and send the audio to you within the timeframe we’ve discussed.

Any revisions needed? Leave it with me. Then, once you’re totally happy, I’ll ping over the clean audio files in your preferred format to you via Smash/WeTransfer.

If you’re a shiny new client, I’ll kindly ask for 50% payment up front, followed by the balance on your receipt of files. For any wonderful existing clients, my payment terms are 30 days.

If you're new here, hiiii and I hope to work with you. If you're still deciding, have a read of my testimonials left by some of the wonderful people I've worked with.
